Our investigation has shown that a sitting Commissioner at the LACC, Madam Abas Hamilton Dolo and Cllr. Edwin Martin hail from Maryland County. This violates the LACC Act, because of which the new appointment made must be reversed.
Also, we are disappointed in the President's appointment and replacement of officials at public integrity institutions at will, with limited or no consultation with stakeholders. Section 6.2 of the LACC Act provides that the President "may consult with civil society pursuant to the partnership between Government and said Civil Society in the fight against Corruption". While the President is solely responsible to make appointments, continuously doing so at the exclusion of partners, especially for public integrity institutions, undermines best practices and raises more questions. With already limited stakeholders' confidence in the fight against Corruption in Liberia, such unilateral appointments by the President does not help the process.
